The local communities within Northern Virginia are tight knit, and together they are getting through this tough time with loads of support, as well as finding ways to stay connected virtually.

This month, from Monday, April 6 to Friday, April 24, Northern Virginians can show their love to small businesses in Old Town Alexandria by participating in the Love Local Contest, running Mondays through Fridays, and being held by the Old Town Boutique District and Old Town Business Association.

The virtual contest encourages individuals to support any Old Town small business by taking a photo showing how they are supporting them (think: a photo of your takeout dinner or of your kids doing crafts from local shops), and then posting them to Instagram for a chance to win a daily prize of a $50 gift card to the Old Town business of your choice.

Each day has a different theme, and photos must be posted to Instagram by 8 p.m. each day, using the hashtag #LoveLocalOT and tagging @otboutiques, as well as the business you are showcasing in the image.

Throughout the contest, Mondays will be reserved for local fitness brands; Tuesdays are for fashion; Wednesday is for businesses in the wellness industry; Thursday is a mix of home, pets and family; and Friday is all about restaurants.
