A lot has changed because of the coronavirus pandemic, and more changes are coming, including within the public school system. On Monday, March 23, Gov. Northam announced that all Virginia public schools will remain closed for the rest of the current school year.

This builds on the governor’s previous two-week school closure order. Families are being asked to keep their children home if they can through the end of the school year.

Gov. Northam also said that certain businesses, including bowling alleys, gyms and theaters, must close in the state. This does not apply to essential businesses like grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations.

This is a developing story. For more information, visit the Virginia Department of Education’s website here.
