The weather is warming up, which is the perfect excuse to head to an event at one of Northern Virginia’s parks. Here, find five to attend in March. 

Mini-Golf Spring Opening Day
Saturday, March 14, 8 p.m.
Grab the kids and head to the spring season opener of the 18-hole miniature golf course at Upton Hill Regional Park. The challenging holes over the park’s landscape ensure you and the youngsters will stay entertained throughout the game. // Upton Hill Regional Park: 6060 Wilson Blvd., Arlington; $5-$6

Birding Bles Park
Sunday, March 15, 8-11 a.m.
Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy will lead a bird walk at Bles Park, located along the Potomac River, home to 175 different species of birds. Grab your binoculars and enjoy nature as you spot new birds you’ve never seen before. // Bles Park: 44830 Bles Park Drive, Ashburn; free

Bluebird/Purple Martin Nest Volunteer Event
Sunday, March 15, 1-3:30 p.m.
Volunteers are needed for Wolf Trap’s Citizen Scientist Program for the park’s bluebirds and purple martins. The park is forming a Bird House Monitoring Team to monitor and maintain the bluebird and the purple martin housing at the park. Creating a Wildlife Sanctuary on Your Property: The Audubon at Home Program
Saturday, March 21, 2-4 p.m.
Support wildlife on your own property by transforming your yard into a habitat perfect for local wildlife. Mason Neck State Park will host a presentation on how to create a wildlife habitat, the best practices for maintaining it and why it’s important to support local pollinators and animals. // Mason Neck State Park: 7301 High Point Road, Lorton; free

Travels With Ollie: March Group Hike
Sunday, March 22, 8:30-11 a.m.
Join this hiking series with your dogs and explore the Potomac River this month at Great Falls National Park for a 3-mile loop, with river views and forest trails. All dogs must get along with children and other animals. // Great Falls National Park: 9200 Old Dominion Drive, McLean; $15-$20
