A focal point in the movement for women’s rights, International Women’s Day is celebrated annually around the world on March 8. March also marks Women’s History Month. Here are seven local events joining the cause.
Caboose Brewing Company’s International Women’s Day Market

Caboose Commons is hosting a pop-up market consisting of local women-run businesses in Northern Virginia. lululemon International Women’s Day Yoga: Balance for Better

lululemon’s Reston location is hosting a donation-based yoga class and discussion around International Women’s Day. Women Making Waves: Women’s Day Art Exhibit & Boutique

Celebrate International Women’s Day with local artist Ashley Joi for her solo art exhibit. United States of Pizza

In late January, Pizzeria Paradiso announced its “United States of Pizza: Women’s Slice of the Pie” weekly, rotating menu, which honors and highlights female elected officials. Owner Ruth Gresser has added a fundraising component for International Women’s Day. 250 Years of Women’s History at Mount Vernon

Throughout March, Mount Vernon visitors can learn about the women who lived and worked at George Washington’s estate in the 18th century. The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association (MVLA)—the oldest national historic preservation organization in the U.S.—will also be a highlight of the 60-minute tour, which covers Martha Washington’s life before marrying George, the history of enslaved women on the plantation and how the MVLA has protected the estate throughout the centuries. // George Washington’s Mount Vernon: 3200 Mount Vernon Highway, Mount Vernon; $10 in addition to general admission
The Light Horse Showcases Wines from Female Winemakers
Through March 31
The Light Horse, an Old Town neighborhood tavern, is showcasing wines from female winemakers and female-owned vineyards exclusively for the month of March.
