A furloughed federal employee got to cash in on some good luck this past week. Carrie Walls of Ashburn, who’s husband is currently impacted by the government shutdown, won last month’s Virginia Lottery special drawing, which resulted in a Ford Expedition and a $100,000 check.

Loudoun County could be going green as the Board of Supervisors is preparing to approve a program that would help finance green energy for commercial buildings. This program, the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy Program, allows building owners to more easily take out loans for clean energy projects.

Fredericksburg has announced a new Fredericksburg Pathway Plan that will include a bike path, a section of the East Coast Greenway Trail and links to the city’s existing trails. The plan would see these new trails developed over the next five years.
