Reston and Tysons Corner streets may soon charge for street parking. Fairfax County would consider the change after studying a consultant’s review that could also suggest additional rule changes like time limits for certain parking spots—even for free spots—or bans on overnight parking.

The new year will bring new fees for Great Falls National Park. As of Jan. 1, the current vehicle entrance fee of $10 for three days will rise to $15 and will be valid for seven days. Fees are also expected to rise for hikers, bicyclists and motorcyclists. An annual pass will remain at $30. The fees will allow visitors to enter both Great Falls and the C&O National Historical Park in Maryland.

The new park along the Alexandria waterfront has officially been dubbed Waterfront Park by the Alexandria City Council. In a meeting on Saturday, the council voted unanimously for the new name, choosing it over Fitzgerald Square, which referenced the founding father of Alexandria who owned slaves.

If you still haven’t been to the National Museum of African American History and Culture in DC, the process of getting in the door is getting a little easier. Starting in the new year, walk-up entry on weekdays will begin at 10 a.m. during off-peak season (September-February), with timed passes only needed on weekends. During peak season (March-August) timed passes and same-day passes will be needed until 1 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.
