Crystal City emerges as favorite for Amazon HQ2; Woodbridge police fired upon, suspect in custody

Crystal City may soon be getting a new resident, as reports indicate that Crystal City and Amazon.com are in advanced discussions about the much-anticipated HQ2. Speculation points toward Crystal City as the current favorite for Amazon, with some expecting an announcement in November.

On Saturday, police arrested 24-year-old Rodolfo Rivera and charged him with the murder of Natasha Rivera, 20. Rodolfo Rivera was arrested at a Crystal City hotel on the 1700 block of Jefferson Davis Highway; police described the death as a “domestic-related homicide.”

On Sunday evening, police in Woodbridge were “ambushed” by a man with a long-gun rifle in a neighborhood, according to Police Chief Barry Barnard. Police shot the suspect, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No one other than the shooter is believed to have been injured.

Two stations along Metro’s Yellow and Blue lines will be closed over Veteran’s Day weekend. The Crystal City and Reagan National Airport stations will be closed from Friday, Nov. 9, through Monday, Nov. 12 for varied improvements.
