Metro proposes expanded services; New Cherrydale middle school down to three finalists for name

In what is believed to be an attempt to win back riders, Metro General Manager Paul J. Wiedefeld has proposed a new budget that would expand rush hour services, extend the Yellow and Red lines, add eight cars to all trains and implement a flat $2 fare for weekends. These services would require additional funds from local jurisdictions, however.

The new middle school set to open next fall in Cherrydale has revealed the three finalists for the school’s name: Stratford Middle School, Dorothy Hamm Middle School and Legacy Middle School. A final vote on the name is expected by Dec. 20.

Police in Stafford County arrested an alleged drunken driver after he crashed his pickup into 10 cars, injuring four people. After the accidents, he climbed onto the roof of a Five Guys restaurant before being taken into custody.

Hillsboro Charter Academy was recently recognized with the National Aerospace Connections Education Award by the Civil Air Patrol. Students were treated with a mini air show last week in recognition, including a helicopter, commercial drone and hot air balloon demonstration.

Falls Church High School running back Dekwandre Marshall reached a milestone during the team’s game last week, passing the 2,000 rushing yard mark for the season with one game remaining in the season. Marshall will continue his football career next year at Morgan State on a full scholarship.
