The winner of this year’s Marine Corps Marathon was local D.C. resident Jeffrey Stein. Stein improved on his top 10 finish in 2017, one that saw him accidentally take a wrong turn, finishing in 2 hours, 22 minutes and 49 seconds this year.

The Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation is seeking volunteers to offer foster homes for dogs on a temporary basis so that they can make room at the kennel for dogs arriving that have been displaced by hurricanes.

Construction is underway for the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s new $13.5 million rehearsal and education wing, which is expected to be completed for fall 2019. The new wing will feature two large rehearsal studios, six practice/teaching rooms and two classrooms.

Arlingtonians are getting a new mode of public transportation, as Via has announced that it is expanding into Arlington. In D.C. since 2016, Via is a ride-sharing app similar to Uber or Lyft, but riders who have a similar route will be picked up along the way.
