While I wait for St. Patrick’s Day …
This isn’t the first time I’ve written about something Irish related; my line dance skills still need help and I’m nowhere near close to learning a jig. My roommate shares my love for all things Irish—she got to study abroad there while in college—and this weekend we will likely visit the Ballyshaners’ Alexandria Irish Festival, featuring all of what you would expect: traditional food and drink, Scottish highland and Irish dancers, pipes, cultural exhibits, Celtic vendors and more. Admission is free and beer sales will support next year’s parade. –RK // Waterfront Park: 1A Prince St., Old Town Alexandria
DC Beer Week
Through Aug. 26
It’s the 10th anniversary of DC Beer Week and there are plenty of ways to down some local brews. In Virginia there’s a $50 all-you-can-eat crab fest at Quarterdeck with $1 DC Brau drafts and $5 pitchers and a pig roast at Fire Works Pizza, where a $20 ticket includes a can of local beer, plus more drinking opportunities all over the city. –SG
Tuning in live
The trek home after a long day at work can be an arduous one at times, but I soften the blow of my daily commute by listening to Chad Dukes on 106.7 the Fan. This Friday, I can take that enjoyment I have in my car and share it with other fans of Dukes when he hosts a special event at Jammin Java, CollaborHAYtion. If he brings half the energy he has on the radio it is sure to be a fun time. –MB // 227 Maple Ave. E., Vienna
Tot Rock
Summer in Northern Virginia isn’t really complete without at least one trip to Wolf Trap. I’m looking forward to heading out there this Saturday for KIDZ BOP Live. My husband and I can have a glass of wine on the lawn while our two cute kids wiggle and dance. –KB // 1551 Trap Road, Vienna
