Public will be able to weigh in on name of Alexandria waterfront park; NoVA under a flash flood warning through Friday

The Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish Catholic cultural group, has expressed their frustrations that the soon-to-open waterfront park in Alexandria is being referred to as the King Street Park on the Waterfront, as it was originally intended to be named Fitzgerald Square, honoring Irish immigrant and aide-de-camp to George Washington, Col. John Fitzgerald. Before its opening this fall, the public will be able to weigh in on the park’s name.

All of Northern Virginia is under a flash flood watch until 8 a.m. on Friday, especially as more rain is suspected today and tomorrow. Prince William County saw multiple road closures on Thursday morning.

Fairfax County Police recently uncovered a three-person credit card fraud ring in the area. In the suspects’ Candlewood Suites residence, police found 293 credit cards that were “altered or in the process of being altered.”

The Jennifer Bush-Lawson Foundation has awarded the Virginia Hospital Center’s Outpatient Clinic a $70,354 grant so that it may continue to use a telemedicine program to serve high-risk pregnant women who may not be able to make or attend appointments, provide low-income pregnant women with transportation cards and purchase “pack-and-plays,” too.
