Stanley Cup parade cost around $400K, Events DC covers $250K; ‘Clarendon Circle’ intersection improvements to be voted on Saturday

Tuesday’s Stanley Cup parade, at which Alex Ovechkin insisted he continue talking and taking questions, is estimated to have cost between $380,000-$400,000, $250,000 of which Events DC will pay.

The intersection of Clarendon, Washington and Wilson Boulevards know as “Clarendon Circle” could see construction improvements that begin in the fall and last through the winter of 2020, should the Arlington County Board approve the $2.5 million contract on Saturday.

The remains of Marta Haydee Rodriguez, the 28-year-old estranged wife of Jose Rodriguez-Cruz—who plead guilty to killing his girlfriend, Pamela Butler, in 2009—were positively identified nearly 30 years after Rodriguez went missing in 1989. The remains were found in 1991, but not identified until now. Prosecutors suspect that Rodriguez-Cruz had something to do with his wife’s death, but no charges have been filed.

Wednesday morning, U.S. Park Police were made aware of an alleged sexual assault that occurred in Alexandria’s Fort Hunt Park at 9:35 a.m. The suspect, who police believe knows the victim, fled the scene. The incident is under investigation.
