From a breweries tour to the Love Your Body Yoga Festival: What we’re looking forward to this week

This week, the editors at Northern Virginia Magazine are looking forward to the Alexandria Historic Breweries Walking Tour & Tasting, learning about comic book media and spending the weekend doing yoga.

Back for more beer
While my significant other was on his grad school winter break earlier this year, we had a great time visiting Alexandria and touring Port City Brewing. Obviously, an outdoor walking tour isn’t all that appealing in January, so that was the only Alexandria brewery we got around to visiting. Now that it’s warmer, I’m hoping to get outdoors, learn a little more about Alexandria’s brewing history and, of course, sample some beers at this weekend’s $25 Alexandria Historic Breweries Walking Tour & Tasting led by Garrett Peck, author of Alexandria’s Historic Breweries: A Walking Tour & Pub Guide, and Cat Portner, Portner Brewhouse’s co-founder. Included is a chance to give feedback to local homebrewers participating in Portner Brewhouse’s Craft Beer Test Kitchen. I got my boyfriend a homebrew kit for Christmas, so maybe he’ll walk away with a few ideas of his own. –RK // Starting at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House: 323 S. Fairfax St., Alexandria

From page to the screen
Comic book movies are everywhere nowadays. Sometimes I can get just as wrapped up in the hype as more hard-core comic book fans do, like with this year’s Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, while other times Marvel and DC entries can leave me kind of bleh. But I’m a sucker for a good history lesson, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ resident comic book and pop-culture historian, Christopher Irving, will have my attention as he talks about how the comic book media evolved from its movie serials roots to dominating the summer box office. –MB // Torpedo Factory: 105 N. Healthy living fit into a day
I’ve been on quite the health kick lately, look for our August issue and you’ll know why. And while I’ve dabbled in yoga in the past through gym and online classes, I’ve never given it my full dedication even though I know how beneficial it is for my body and mind. Hoping to get a kick in the pants to make it an ongoing practice with a trip to Reston this weekend for the Love Your Body Yoga Festival.  –LN // Reston Town Center: 11900 Market St., Reston
