Memorial Day celebrations and other events at NoVA’s parks

In addition to Memorial Day ceremonies and festivities, the parks are also hosting a handful of upcoming festivals and special events.

Camping/Movie Night
May 25, 8:30 p.m.
With the purchase of a campsite that can hold up to seven people, those looking to spend a night under the stars can also take in an 8:30 p.m. screening of The Lego Batman movie at no additional charge. // Burke Lake Park: 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station

Please Touch Tour
May 26, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Usually you need to keep your hands to yourself while exploring historic sites, but on this interactive tour, guests are encouraged to put their fingers on a number of antique items including dishes, tools, clothing and furniture. // Sully Historic Site: 3650 Historic Sully Way, Chantilly 

Strawberry Jubilee Fest
May 26-27, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Great Country Farms is celebrating strawberry season with live music, a pie-eating contest, wagon rides, games and strawberry treats like donut strawberry shortcake, chocolate dipped strawberries and strawberry rhubarb pies. Guests can pick their own strawberries while supplies last. // Great Country Farms: 18780 Foggy Bottom Road, Bluemont 

Annual Delaplane Strawberry Festival
May 26-27, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
This 25th annual festival in honor of the strawberry will include live music, games, hay rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, crafts, face painting, a bake sale and a 5K trail run. Strawberries will be for sale by the box and on sundaes. Proceeds benefit Emmanuel Episcopal Church. // Sky Meadows State Park: 11012 Edmonds Lane, Delaplane

Living History Demonstration and Memorial Day Observance
May 26-28
Find out what camp life was like during the Civil War with a living history demonstration at Manassas National Battlefield Park. There will be portrayals of drills and historic weapons firing as well, and on Memorial Day there will be a musketry salute for those who lost their lives at the battles of Bull Run and throughout the Civil War will be held at Groveton Confederate Cemetery. // Manassas National Battlefield Park: 6511 Sudley Road, Manassas 

Hamiltunes: An American Sing-Along
May 26, Noon-2 p.m.
This NoVA sing-a-long is the perfect activity for every Broadway musical and history fan this weekend. The Mount Vernon Community Children’s Theatre, along with other Metro-D.C. area adult musicians, will host the Hamiltunes sing-a-long event with songs from the Broadway musical sensation, Hamilton. Grab a picnic,and cluster on the 12-acre field at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Tickets range from $11-$18, and admission for children under five is free. // George Washington’s Mount Vernon: 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon

Fredericksburg National Cemetery Annual Illumination
May 26, 8-11 p.m.
More than 15,300 candles will be lit at Fredericksburg National Cemetery to honor veterans. There will also be a historic walking tour to view the lights, each one honoring a buried soldier. Taps will be played every 30 minutes. // Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center: 1013 Lafayette Blvd., Fredericksburg

Music in the Park
May 27, 2 p.m.
The Band of America’s Few, a nonprofit group made up of veteran and active duty Marine Corps musicians, will play a free concert in honor of the 100-year commemoration of the end of World War I and the 100-year anniversary of the founding of the Women Marines Association. // Hurkamp Park: Prince Edward St., Fredericksburg

2018 Blast Off! “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band and Fireworks Show
May 27, 8 p.m.
The “President’s Own” United States Marine band will be playing a concert at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center. It will kick off the summer season of outdoor concerts at this venue. The event is free. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., and fireworks will begin at approximately 9:45 p.m. // The Filene Center at the Wolf Trap National Park: 1645 Trap Road, Vienna

Memorial Day Ceremony
May 28, 10 a.m.
At this event, help honor those who have lost their lives fighting for our country’s freedom by observing a wreath laying at multiple war memorials. // Loudoun County CourtHouse: 18 E. Market St., Leesburg

Victory in Europe Ice Cream Social
May 28, 1 p.m.
In celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, the Spindle Sears House is having an ice cream social where you can crank homemade ice cream, spot airplanes, pose like Rosie the Riveter and learn how residents of Fairfax County helped support the war effort. // Historic Centreville Park: 5714 Mt. Memorial Moon Hike
May 28, 8-9 p.m.
Though you may have walked these trails during the day, you’ll get to see them in a whole new light on this evening tour, where you may even been able to see the season’s first fireflies. // Gulf Branch Nature Center & Park: 3608 North Military Road, Arlington

Little Goat Farm Fun Day
May 28, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
This Nokesville goat farm is hosting a farm fun day where visitors can hang out with and feed goats, alpacas and llamas. There’s also a greenhouse, trails and fishing in Lake Manassas. Goat, alpaca and bee products and eggs will be available for purchase. // Little Goat Farm at the Lake: 8954 Burwell Road, Nokesville

Memorial Day Jazz Festival
Monday, May 28, 1-6 p.m.
Celebrate Memorial Day by enjoying the sounds of a variety of jazz styles, featuring performances from the U.S. Navy Commodore Band, Project Natale, the Village Jazz Band and more. Pack a picnic or purchase food and beverages available at this free event. // Waterfront Park: 1A Prince St., Alexandria

Poision & Venom Survival Skills Class
June 1, 4-5 p.m.
For $5 per person, children ages 7-13 will learn what natural elements can do them harm and how to respond in potentially life-threatening situations. // Long Branch Nature Center at Glencarlyn Park

Martha Washington’s Birthday Celebration
June 2, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Meet former first lady Martha Washington at the mansion’s piazza, then hang around for a 1 p.m. ceremony that honors new United States citizens. // George Washington’s Mount Vernon: 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon

Bread and Butter Tea
June 2, 3 p.m.

Cardboard Boat Regatta
June 3, 9 a.m. judging & 11 a.m. race
