Blue and Yellow lines to temporarily close south of Reagan National next summer; Bill Cosby loses Kennedy Center awards

Over the next three years, Metro plans to rebuild 20 outdoor station platforms, and to do that they will temporarily close the Blue and Yellow lines south of Reagan National Airport during the summer of 2019. Eisenhower Avenue, Huntington, Van Dorn Street and Franconia-Springfield stations are those set to shutdown.

In 1998, Bill Cosby was awarded the Kennedy Center Honor for lifetime achievement in performing arts, and in 2009 was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Both awards have been rescinded in light of his sexual assault conviction.

Thursday night, Steven Best was shot and seriously injured by Arlington County Police after allegedly attempting to ram a police cruiser. Best was with a woman who had an outstanding arrest warrant. Since the shooting, Best’s family has not been permitted to visit him in the hospital or be informed of Best’s condition.

51-year-old Mannie Burton of Woodbridge was arrested on Sunday after getting out of her car and confronting a 63-year-old man with a machete around 12:45 a.m. near Clipper Drive and Tumbling Brook Lane.

Monday, James and Kelly Ghaisar, the parents of 25-year-old accountant Bijan Ghaisar—who was shot and killed by U.S. Park Police last November—along with their other son, Negeen, wrote a letter encouraging that officers be required to wear body cameras to U.S. Park Police Chief Robert MacLean.
