In the fifth round of the NFL draft, Tim Settle, an alumnus of Stonewall Jackson High School, was picked up by the Washington Redskins. During the seventh round of the draft, Greg Stroman, also a Stonewall Jackson alumnus, was likewise selected by the Redskins. 30 minutes after the draft had ended, Chris Lee, a Hylton High School graduate, was asked to attend the Redskins’ rookie mini-camp in mid-May, and should he do well, he may be invited to attend the team’s training camp.

Mateusz Fijalkowski, a Polish man who was working at a Fairfax pool during a summer program, is suing the county for hesitating to save him while attempting to drown himself. Police instructed a lifeguard to not jump into until Fijalkowski had gone still as they believed that Fijalkowski could be a threat to themselves and the lifeguard. Fijalkowski was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority will decide whether to grant or reject a $132 million funding request for an extension spanning half a mile between Sunrise Valley Drive and Sunset Hills Road, dubbed the Soapstone Connector.
