Kristina Anderson, a Virginia Tech shooting survivor who now acts as the executive director of the nonprofit Koshka Foundation for Safe Schools, spoke at an Alexandria conference about school safety. Anderson, who was shot three times on April 16, 2007, was carried to safety by Curtis Brown, whom she met face to face for the first time since he helped save her life.

Former Reston Association President Ellen Graves passed away on Monday, April 9. Graves, a resident of Reston for more than 30 years, received a Best of Reston award in 2004, was the executive director of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women, Inc., and served on the Fairfax County Social Services Board, among other achievements.

Prince William County, the City of Manassas and George Mason University have been donating funds to the development of the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center since 1999. The university wants to keep the funds coming so that they can complete more renovations over the next five years, but Prince William supervisors are considering changing how much money they contribute.
