High school students to participate in National School Walkout this morning; British physicist Stephen Hawking dies at 76

Northern Virginia’s daily dose of local and national news for Wednesday, March 14.

Today at 10 a.m., students all over the country are expected to participate in the National School Walkout by standing outside for 17 minutes, honoring the 17 student lives that were lost during the shooting at Parkland, Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School exactly one month ago.

Stephen Hawking, the theoretical physicist that suffered from the degenerative Lou Gehrig’s disease, passed away in his Cambridge, England home at 76 years old. Hawking’s family has not yet shared more information about his death.

Though this will not delay the Reston Association’s April 2, 5 p.m. voting deadline, 3,500 non-apartment area renters failed to receive election ballots due technical difficulties. Those that did not initially receive the ballots that were mailed on March 5 will be reveicing them shortly, or can vote online instead.
