Fred Guttenberg, a Florida father whose daughter, Jamie, was killed in the February shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, spoke about gun violence at the U.S. Senate on Wednesday. Guttenberg spoke again at an Alexandria “A Conversation About Gun Safety and the Safety of American Schools’ town hall meeting later that day.

After finding out that a Loudoun County school employee accused of having inappropriate behavior with students was given a positive recommendation from the school’s principal while interviewing for a Florida position, Arlington/Alexandria’s State Sen. Adam Ebbin (D) crafted a bill that would prevent Virginia public school employees from giving recommendations for individuals accused of such acts. The bill is now in Gov. Ralph Northam’s hands.
