My Irish eyes are smiling …
Why? Because in addition to Ned Devine’s Thursday country night—I’m prepping for my April trip to Texas by learning line dances from an instructor at this weekly event—I have yet another reason to return to one of my favorite Irish sports pubs. Their St. Patrick’s Day party kicks off at 10 a.m. and will offer party favors, four live music acts (one of them a ’90s tribute band), plus three performances from the Boyle School of Irish Dance. Once I have my line dancing down, maybe I’ll give jigs a try. –RK // 2465 Centreville Road, Herndon
Relive your youth with The Zombies
March 13
Sometimes you need to retreat to a time in your life where stresses were few and the biggest item on your calendar was a night out with friends, packed in a venue with strangers, rocking out to tunes. The Birchmere is hosting The Zombies this week, and it is a great opportunity to relive the ’90s. –LN // The Birchmere: 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria
Book binding workshop at Penny Press
March 14
I have yet to make it to Penny Press, Red Barn Mercantile’s sister store dedicated to stationery, and as a total notebook and pen dork, I’m also thinking about attending one of the regularly scheduled events. This week is book binding ($75, with limited space; other events are free), and those who register will bring home a journal constructed during class. Check Facebook for more upcoming events. –SG // Penny Post: 1201 King St., Alexandria
Tuesdays with Morrie
Opens March 16
My guess is I’m not the only one for whom Tuesdays with Morrie was required reading in college. I can’t say I remember every detail, but I can say it was a thought-provoking read about life and relationships. And I’ll venture it’s worth seeing on stage. –EB // Hylton Performing Arts Center: 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas
