State ban on hand-held cellphone use while driving possible; Fairfax real estate taxes could increase by more than $250

Tuesday, the state Senate approved a bill that would ban all hand-held cellphone use by drivers while the car is in motion. Those using their phone for navigation would have to utilize a mount and could only otherwise hold their phone if the car is legally parked or if there is an emergency. The bill has been passed on to the House of Delegates.

Tuesday, the 2019 fiscal year budget calling for an increase of $268 in Fairfax County real estate taxes was presented. In May, the board of supervisors will vote.

The couple that was arrested on Sunday after walking through an Ashburn development and arriving at a Sterling hotel completely naked will appear in Loudoun County General District Court for an April 25 hearing. A spokesman from the sheriff’s office said that the pair did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol upon being arrested.
