Signature, Reston Town Center’s newest apartment building, features an art gallery on its ground floor. The gallery, created in partnership with the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE), has a year-round schedule that features exhibitions of local artists, with an opening reception slated for March 1.
“This partnership provides a perfect opportunity for GRACE to regularly celebrate and support local artists through exhibitions of their work as the programming in our current Town Center spaces becomes more dedicated to introducing national and international artists to Reston and the DMV,” says Lily Siegel, GRACE’s executive director and curator.
The quiet and organized gallery that catches your attention upon entering the building currently features the work of D.C. artist Craig Moran. Moran, a graduate of the University of Virginia, follows a process of combining pieces from street art, photographs, paintings and books to create an unforgettable image that is transformed into a painting. All of Moran’s artwork features bold, eye-catching colors.
“It is this process of disassembling and reassembling that sets me forth on a journey that is both mysterious and exhilarating,” he says in an artist statement on his website.
Moran’s exhibit will be on display at Signature through the end of May.
The gallery will feature pieces from artists living and working locally, as Signature aims to create communal spaces for residents. All artists will be selected by GRACE curatorial staff. GRACE will present three exhibitions this calendar year, and installations will change quarterly moving forward.
“Dedicating a space to regularly showcasing our local artists here in the community was important to us,” Siegel says. “The fact that the space happens to be in a residential building with a steady stream of visitors who may not be aware of what GRACE does and the possibility of introducing unsuspecting residents and their guests to an artist in their community is an added bonus.”
