Carla Bruni—former first lady of France and fashion model—sings? Yes. And quite well. In fact, she’s been releasing albums in French and English for the past 15 years, including many pieces she penned herself. -EB

Sweets, sips and such
My significant other lives a 24-hour drive away—yay long distance relationships—but I’m not letting that get me down this week. On Valentine’s Day and again this weekend, Breaux Vineyards is hosting a Chocolate and Cabernet Tasting featuring sparkling wine, four Cabernet samples and an assortment of imported chocolates and truffles. For those last-minute planners out there, check out our listing of other Valentine’s Day events. –RK

Mom needs a break
Sometimes we just need a weekend of doing nothing. I rarely get those opportunities, and even when I do, I find myself stressed out because I think of things I should be doing and, at the same time, try to force myself to do nothing. This weekend I’m indulging in our own advice for surviving a winter weekend. And while I won’t be reading B-list celebrity memoirs, I will be tackling a slew of novels written by local authors that will soon be featured in our Bookshelf column. –LN

Honestly, I’m not even a dog person but who can resist the unironic seriousness of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. It’s great television. -SG
