Earth Fare grocery store opens in Fairfax; Pepco, Washington Gas customers to receive credits due to corporate income tax cuts

The first of its kind to come to the Washington, D.C., area, Earth Fare—an organic grocery store based in North Carolina—will open at 11052 Lee Highway in Fairfax today.

Due to the decrease in corporate income tax that was brought about by the Jan. 1, 2018, federal tax law, Pepco and Washington Gas will give their customers gas/electricity credits.

Alexandria’s George Washington Middle School remains closed on Wednesday as crews continue to repair a burst pipe in the electrical room. Parents told ABC7 News that leading up to the pipe breaking, children were wearing hats and gloves indoors because it was so chilly in their classrooms. A spokesperson for the school also shared that temperatures in some rooms only hit the mid-50s.

Usually, Pentagon Row visitors have to pay to park in the shopping center’s garage even if they only plan to stay for a short period of time. But as of this past Tuesday, Jan. 9, visitors will be able to park for free during their first hour.

Tuesday, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors passed a resolution that they will present to state lawmakers when working with incoming Governor-elect Ralph Northam to discuss how the state will fund Metro. Gov. Terry McAuliffe proposed that $150 million be dedicated to the transportation service each year, but Prince William supervisors do not agree with how significantly said funding would affect Northern Virginia counties.
