Senate moves forward with health care debate; undocumented immigrant killed in tractor-trailer in Texas was from NoVA

In a tie-breaking vote, the Senate decided to begin hours of debate on possible amendments to overhaul the Affordable Care Act. After returning from surgery and receiving a diagnosis of brain cancer, Arizona Sen. John McCain addressed the Senate, saying he and his colleagues were “getting nothing done.”

Ten undocumented immigrants died in an overheated tractor-trailer in San Antonio, Texas, as they were smuggled into the U.S. One of the victims was a 19-year-old who grew up in Northern Virginia, attended school in Fairfax County and was deported back to Guatemala this past March.
