Virginia gubernatorial candidates make final campaign push; D.C. and Maryland sue Trump for breaking anti-corruption laws

Northern Virginia’s daily dose of local and national news for Monday, June 12.

By Editorial June 12, 2017 at 9:09 am

In the final days of the Virginia gubernatorial campaign, Democratic candidate, Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, campaigned in Northern Virginia with Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. Republican candidate Ed Gillespie focused on parts of the state that tend to go blue, including Fairfax County. Gillespie’s opponent, Prince William Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart, won a battle to air an ad featuring a graphic image of comedian Kathy Griffin holding a bloody mask resembling President Donald Trump. The outcome of the election could be seen as taking the country’s temperature following Trump’s election, however, both Trump and his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, are not weighing in or offering endorsements.
