In the final days of the Virginia gubernatorial campaign, Democratic candidate, Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, campaigned in Northern Virginia with Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. Republican candidate Ed Gillespie focused on parts of the state that tend to go blue, including Fairfax County. Gillespie’s opponent, Prince William Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart, won a battle to air an ad featuring a graphic image of comedian Kathy Griffin holding a bloody mask resembling President Donald Trump. The outcome of the election could be seen as taking the country’s temperature following Trump’s election, however, both Trump and his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, are not weighing in or offering endorsements.

D.C. and Maryland’s attorneys general are suing Trump for breaking with anti-corruption laws in the Constitution, claiming his continued ties to his business, including his D.C. hotel, allow him to take payments from foreign governments.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Loving v. Virginia decision, wherein a Caroline County couple successfully challenged the state’s ban on interracial marriage. Gov. McAuliffe will dedicate a marker commemorating the decision by the Richmond building that once housed the Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.
