In the week ahead, Northern Virginia Magazine‘s editors are looking forward to visiting Nicecream in Old Town Alexandria, a trip to Deep Creek Lake and the return of Veep and The Leftovers.
Tuning in for HBO’s new Sunday lineup
April 16
As Girls and Big Little Lies conclude their runs, they will be replaced by two HBO series I’m excited to return: Veep and The Leftovers. Veep, now in its sixth season, is one of the funniest, best-written shows on TV right now, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus is an American treasure. (Plus, it’ll be interesting to see how closely the jokes align with reality these days.) The Leftovers also airs Sunday, launching its third and final season. I was late to this show and never really watched Damon Lindelof’s other beloved series, Lost, but The Leftovers is a weird ride and has only gotten better over time. –BK
Passover
Through April 18
Don’t tell my mom, but I won’t be keeping Passover after I leave tonight’s Seder, though I will continue to try to persuade her it’s okay to serve chickpeas and quinoa. But for everyone else needing some gefilte fish and matzo ball soup, check out Celebrity Delly’s Passover menu. And here are more area restaurants with Passover options. –SG // Celebrity Delly: 7263-A Arlington Blvd., Falls Church
A bit of travel
Sometimes with this job I get to explore outside the Northern Virginia area for pieces we write about. This week I get a bit of a break from the traffic-clogged streets with a trip to Deep Creek Lake. While I’ve heard of its serene beauty, I’ve never been before. If you have a place I should definitely make it to in the area, let me know @lnorusis. –LN
Thinking of Streep on Saturday
To cap off what I hope to be a warm weather week, I’ll be bringing the fam to the new Nicecream in Old Town. I’m dying to try the honey lavender, primarily because it makes me think of Alec’s fav Meryl-made ice cream in one of my top 10 films, It’s Complicated. May have to re-watch that movie afterward … –EB
Finding a patio
To compensate for spending this beautiful Monday indoors, I’ll be planting myself on a restaurant patio this weekend with a cold beverage and some good company—if we wear out our welcome, moving to a camp chair on the front lawn is the next best thing. –WD
