When COVID-19 shut down the region in March, the senior community was one of the first groups to feel the effects. Numerous outbreaks were announced on the evening news nightly as the virus spread across the region. With cases continuing to skyrocket around the country, Reston-based tech company Intrex is looking to keep senior living facilities safe with Rythmos.
According to the company’s website, “Rythmos is an innovative wellness platform for senior living communities designed to monitor safety and manage chronic conditions.”
The wearable device was created by the local health care technology company to help keep track of residents’ health within a community home, without interfering with their independence.
To make the technology work, residents wear a watch or pendant to track their health and movement. On the other end, caretakers use the mobile app and desktop dashboard to monitor the health of residents at a distance.
Rythmos can also collect data from a variety of devices and have it sent directly to a wearer’s caretaker. These devices include blood pressure cuffs, scales, pulse oximeters and blood glucometers. This data collection gives doctors, staff and family members the ability to check a resident’s health through telehealth, limiting constant checkups at the office.
The wearable device also assists both residents and health staff with a variety of different tasks. For residents, this includes access control to rooms and concierge assistance. While staff members have the ability to detect falls and manage residents who may wander throughout the facility.
During the age of COVID-19, contact tracing has become an important way to try and stop the spread of the virus. Rythmos gives staff members the ability to trace residents’ location history and see who they have come into contact if they do contract the virus. This allows facilities to quickly quarantine and treat those who may be infected before the virus spreads throughout the building.
While Virginia and other states start to offer its own contact tracing apps for COVID-19, Rythmos is an option to help keep loved ones safe within senior living communities and nursing homes.
