These Virginia Cabins Have Incredible Scenic Views

There’s no place like a cabin surrounded by summer trees.

By Laura Scudder February 11, 2022 at 4:32 pm

Updated June 24, 2022. There’s no shortage of places to stay that offer some sort of beautiful scenery in Virginia thanks to a variety of lodging options, from full-blown resorts to Airbnbs. There’s a destination with a view for everyone, and cabins across the Commonwealth offer restful getaways for couples or the whole family — including furry friends.

Getaway Shenandoah

Getaway Shenandoah allows for guests to book a cabin with a view near Shenandoah National Park’s waterways and waterfalls, which guests can easily find by going on a nearby hike, like White Oak Canyon Trail. About two hours away from NoVA and DC, Getaway — which has locations across the U.S. — offers 45 cabins with queen beds, a kitchen, a private bathroom, and even a phone lockbox, so you can unplug for the duration of your stay. There’s also space for outdoor recreation with picnic tables and a fire pit. Stanardsville

Primland Resort

Guests can stay at cabins and even treehouses perched above the Dan River Gorge through Primland Resort. As one of the Auberge Resorts, Primland offers multiple lodging options for those interested, from the resort itself to treehouses perched in the Blue Ridge Mountains with a view of the Kibler Valley, home to the Dan River, which guests can explore through canoeing, fishing, and other recreational activities. If you’re not looking to completely unplug but still want some rest and relaxation, Primland has spa packages and a putting green for any golfer — adventure seekers can go horseback riding or drive an all-terrain vehicle. Hot Tub Heaven Vacation Cabins

It’s a cabin with a hot and bubbly twist. Hot Tub Heaven allows guests to take in Virginia’s views while soaking in a hot tub. Located near Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, Skyline Caverns, Shenandoah River State Park, and the State Arboretum of Virginia, Hot Tub Heaven’s cabins also lie at the bottom of a mountain which holds the Appalachian Trail. The Cabin on Back Creek

Along the banks of Back Creek, this cabin is equipped with two rooms, a bathroom with a washer and dryer, a full-use kitchen, and more amenities — like a wood-burning stove. Visitors can watch or even help as Back Creek Farms makes some of Virginia’s finest syrup from nearby maple trees. The farm has fresh eggs, pancake mix (perfect to pair with the great syrup), and locally raised and butchered meats available for purchase. Monterey

The Depot Lodge

There’s no way to talk about staying in the forest without bringing up glamping. Through the Depot Lodge, guests can stay in tents with a twist. All glamping options include a king size bed and full bath, a fireplace, and an outdoor deck that overlooks a private pond and scenic mountain views. The Depot Lodge offers other nontraditional lodging, with guests having the ability to stay in an airstream trailer or even a caboose — yes, a train caboose. Paint Bank

South River Highlands

Meant to center a holistic environmental experience, South River Highlands offers a country retreat for those looking to get away from the stresses of everyday life. Through yoga, meditation, and different spiritual reflection, South River Highlands wants guests to experience the sanctuary of nature no matter the lodging. While you can choose to stay in the retreat space, you have five cabin options to pick from for a quieter getaway. Each cabin varies in its exact amenities, like a clawfoot tub or grand piano, but all come equipped with the necessities perfect for an unplugged vacation — like a private deck with classic Adirondack chairs.
