Fun On Virginia’s Coast: Dolphin Tours, Sunset Paddle-Boarding, and More

From kayaking with dolphins to scuba diving in the Atlantic, travel the coast to experience all the beauty and fun the water has to offer.

September is just around the corner, but sweet summertime isn’t gone just yet. And fortunately for NoVA, there are numerous ways to soak up the summer sun all along the coast of Virginia.

Has learning how to scuba dive always been on your bucket list? Or perhaps you’re more inclined to take on a guided fishing charter? No matter if it’s over or under the sea, we’ve rounded up plenty of ways to get out and enjoy the water.

Paddle-Board at Sunset

Have you ever seen people paddle-boarding out on the water and wondered, ‘What’s that all about?’ Well, why not give it a go and enjoy a beautiful sunset in the process? Chesapean Outdoors offers a 1.5 hour stand-up paddleboard tour of Linkhorn Bay, provided by an experienced local guide. During this tour, you will not only learn how to paddle-board while taking in the serene location at sunset, but also may encounter some native wildlife along the way such as dolphins, blue herons and kingfishers.

Kayak with Dolphins

Has swimming with dolphins always piqued your interest? How about taking it one step further? Also offered through Chesapean Outdoors is a two-hour guided kayak tour off the shoreline of Virginia Beach, where you are bound to encounter Atlantic bottlenose dolphins in their natural habitat. See these beautiful wild creatures up close and personal while taking in the beautiful scenery of the Atlantic ocean. Want an even prettier sight? A sunset dolphin kayaking tour is also available. Groups for this tour are kept small, and little to no prior kayaking experience is necessary.

Scuba Dive in the Atlantic

Are you ready to explore the world under water? Grab your equipment and schedule a dive trip with Lynnhaven Dive Center in Virginia Beach today. Not quite ready to take on the ocean just yet? Lynnhaven Dive Center provides introductory “try scuba” sessions where professionals teach you scuba techniques on site in a pool to give you a taste of what it is like to scuba dive. You will not receive your scuba certification through this course, but it prepares you for one of the open-water diving courses.

Guided Saltwater Fishing

Are you in the mood to do some fishing, but you’re not really sure where to start? Let an expert do the hard work and join a captain on a group fishing tour in the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic. Hook Shot Fishing offers a guided tour which targets a number of different types of fish using techniques such as trolling, wreck and bottom fishing, and sight casting. Equipment needed, including the rods, reels, bait, and tackle, is included in the tour price.
