Set to a sensational 1960s soundtrack, Dominique Morisseau’s powerful play dives into family struggles, race relations, and other relevant topics. Detailing the events of the 1967 Detroit riots, this play won the Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History.

After the year-plus we’ve had, we all deserve to have some fun. That’s what Jim Gaffigan says, anyway, and it’s what he’s promoting in his latest series of stand-up comedy gigs, The Fun Tour. Gaffigan’s hitting up the Daughters of the American Revolution at Constitution Hall to share hilarious new content.
Jesus Christ Superstar
9/11–9/19
Nonprofit Fauquier Community Theatre is back this fall with a rendition of the smashing stage hit. This outdoor performance features local actors and a live orchestra bringing Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s classic 1970 musical to life.
Bowen McCauley Dance Company
9/14
For the finale of its 25th season, the Bowen McCauley Dance Company will take the stage at the Kennedy Center for an evening. The show will feature gorgeous music from Turkish composer Erberk Eryilmaz and German-Croatian composer Nikola Glassl, plus a solo performance from guest dancer Manish Chauhan of Mumbai, India.
Bright Star
9/15–10/31
Steve Martin and Edie Brickell wrote and composed this beautiful bluegrass Broadway show, inspired by a real event. Love, redemption, and heaps of self-reflection make this post-WWII-era story (with flashbacks to 1923) feel timeless. Warning: It’s ready to pull at the heartstrings.
An Evening with Antoni

Fresh ingredients may not be included, but a brand-new copy of Antoni Porowski’s Antoni: Let’s Do Dinner cookbook is. The Queer Eye star and New York Times best-selling author is taking his recipes on the road, with a pit stop at the Warner Theatre. Deaf Enlightenment & Arts Festival

Join in at the Kennedy Center for a three-day celebration highlighting deaf artists in the community. Co-hosted by the Visionaries of the Creative Arts and National Theatre of the Deaf, the event showcases talents using American Sign Language storytelling, dance, film, theater, and more.
