Updated June 22, 2022. If you have fond memories of donning bell bottoms and vests (or leg warmers and headbands) and spending Saturday afternoons whizzing around the local roller rink to a ’70s- or ’80s-era soundtrack, this Fairfax pop-up will take you back to those halcyon days.
After a successful stint last summer, Mosaic Skateland, a retro-style roller skating rink located in the Mosaic District, is reopening its doors Saturday, June 25. The opening event, during which local band Groovalicious will provide the tunes, is timed to celebrate PRIDE Month, for which the Mosaic District is partnering with Fairfax County Public Schools Pride. FCPS Pride’s mission is to ensure that all students, including trans- and gender-expansive students, are welcome, safe, and respected in all schools from kindergarten to 12th grade. The Mosaic District will donate 100 percent of roller rink ticket sales on June 25 to support the work of FCPS Pride.
After the launch, the rink will be open daily from June 25 to September 25, Monday to Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m, Friday from 4 to 11:15 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 11:15 p.m., and Sunday from 9:45 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Tickets for one-hour sessions, which can be purchased online or in person, cost $17 for adults and $15 for kids, which includes skate rentals; guests are also welcome to bring their own skates. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $14 each. There will also be lockers and skate aids to rent, and socks to purchase if you forget to bring a pair.
“Communities thrive when people feel connected, and EDENS has designed a place for people to come together,” said Greg Dercach, general manager at EDENS-Mosaic. “At Mosaic, we have dubbed this the ‘Summer of Love,’ an opportunity to bring our community of retail partners, neighbors and visitors to have fun, celebrate, and bring on the joy.”
That’s not all Mosaic District has planned for the summer. Every Thursday evening at 7 p.m. now through August 25, they are running Films in the Park, where attendees can watch some of their favorite flicks on a large screen while sitting picnic style in Strawberry Park.
