Making Dough
This winter has made me want to take on new culinary projects. I know I’m late to the party, but it’s time to conquer sourdough. But doing it from scratch is a little too intimidating. That’s why I like the idea of using a kit to ease me through the basics. In fact, I kind of want all of the kits in this article. Once I’ve perfected a loaf or two, I’m moving on to creating some unusual chocolate truffle flavors. Rose-garam masala, anyone? –Alice Levitt, food editor/critic
Cup of Sweets
After last week’s snow storm and with chilly temps in the forecast, I’m definitely in need of some warm refreshments. Instead of heading to the grocery store for a quick fix, I’m in the mood to jump on the hot chocolate bomb trend. From kid-friendly options to color-changing drinks, these local bakeries are offering the Instagram-worthy treats. I’ll be sure to pick up a few to last through whatever storms are on the horizon. –Michele Kettner, associate digital & research Editor
Rising with the Sun
Lately, I’ve been on a quest for quiet. The snow has been lovely, but it’s kept us all inside a bit more and all the parents out there know that a house with kids experiencing cabin fever in the middle of a pandemic is anything but quiet. So, while a staycation isn’t in the cards for me right now (I hope it’s in yours though!), what I can do is get up before the rest of my family and head out to catch a beautiful sunrise. It’s the perfect way to re-center myself and remember that no matter what, a new day always comes. –Katie Bianco, editor
