Here’s where you can see a movie in a theater right now

These local theaters have reopened with new safety measures in place, including allowing you to rent out the whole theater for your small group.

Sick of Netflixing in your pajamas on your couch on a Saturday night? These area theaters have reopened with safety measured in mind. Each of them also offers the option to book the entire theater for your friends and family to have a private screening.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

The One Loudoun and Woodbridge locations of the popular theater and drafthouse have reopened with new house rules including social distancing, wearing masks except while actively eating or drinking and dismissing seats by rows at the end of the film; ticket purchases have at least two “buffer seats” surrounding your party. You can also rent out an entire theater for your friends and family starting at $150, with guests purchasing their own tickets, food and drinks. // 20575 Easthampton Plaza, Ashburn / 15200 Potomac Town Place #100, Woodbridge

AMC Theatres

AMC Safe and Clean protocols at the chain with area locations in Herndon, Ashburn, McLean, Arlington and Alexandria include reducing touch points, simplified menus for shorter lines at concessions and reduced auditorium capacities. Masks that cover the nose and mouth and fit snugly around your face are required; neck gaiters, open-chin bandanas and masks with vents or exhalation valves are not acceptable at this time. You can also host a personal screening for one to 20 people starting at $99. // Multiple locations

Cinemark

The chain of movie theaters is slowly opening with measures including frequent and thorough sanitizing, ample hand sanitizer and wipes available for guests, smart-flow air circulation, mask requirements, food and beverage safety, reduced capacity and staggered showtimes. The locations in Fairfax and Centreville are currently open for scheduled films; you can also host your own screening of a classic flick or new release for up to 20 guests from $99 to $149. // Multiple locations

Angelika Film Center

The sleek Mosaic Center boutique theater and cafe that focuses on art, independent and specialty films opened a few months ago with new rules including a mask requirement except when eating and drinking, cashless transactions, upgraded air filters, blocked off seats around parties and social distancing rules. Bookings for private shows for up to 10 guests start at $150, with optional popcorn and drink package add-ons. // 2911 District Ave., Fairfax

University Mall Theatres

The second-run theater near George Mason University is a popular budget option that’s reopened with social distancing in place; all seats at all times are just $5, with kids, seniors and students just $4, and each concession is $3. You can also rent out the theater for a private showing for up to 12 people for $100, which includes popcorn and a drink for each person. // 10659-A Braddock Rd, Fairfax

Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse

The circa 1930s-era Art Deco theater with a full-service restaurant and bar has reopened with social distancing and mask rules, and upcoming events include Halloween movies and stand-up comedian specials. You can also rent the theater on weekdays for a minimum of three hours, starting at $150/hour plus $1,000 minimum food and beverage purchase. // 2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington
