If you’re a fan of the arts, chances are you’ve been missing visiting galleries in person. Luckily, Gallery Underground in Crystal City is among a handful of local art galleries that have their doors open.
The gallery, which is sponsored by the 150 visual artists of the Arlington Artists Alliance, recently announced its show for the month of August: Unleashed. Presented in Gallery Underground’s Focus Gallery, the themed show is a national juried exhibition by Joseph Toole. Each artist was asked to create a work based on this definition for unleashed: “to free from or as if from a leash. Let loose; or to throw, shoot or set in motion forcefully.”
The resulting works explore the idea of being unleashed from both a literal and figurative perspective. Artists from across the country will participate in the August show with media including everything from painting to photography to glass to fiber art.
Each month, the popular NoVA gallery—which was named Best Art Gallery in Northern Virginia Magazine’s 2019 Best of NoVA feature—presents a new exhibition. If you can’t wait for August, Gallery Underground’s July show, currently on display, explores the theme of Contrast.
Note that Gallery Underground is not hosting its usual opening night receptions for new exhibitions per health and safety guidelines. // 2100 Crystal Drive, Suite 2120-A, Arlington
