This summer will be one to remember in the District. There are already a handful of can’t-miss experiences in the works for the nation’s 250th anniversary, including the Great American State Fair and an IndyCar race along the National Mall. And the latest addition is the Red Bull Spin Off event.
About 20,000 spectators are expected for this one-of-a-kind bike race on June 27 at The Wharf. Inspired by Red Bull’s Stalen Ros series, it’s part of the District’s Fourth of July and 250th anniversary celebrations.

The event is simple: Teams will compete in the tandem bike race on a floating obstacle course over the Washington Channel. They’ll be challenged to secure the top time and will also be judged for their custom-crafted bike designs and showmanship.
Riders and spectators can expect to see narrow pathways and balance-testing elements to the course that will send a handful of teams barreling into the water. It will also celebrate DC with course elements and team designs that represent the city.
If you’re wondering how you can get in on this, you’re in luck. Registration is open now through Sunday, May 3. Teams can apply for the chance to be selected as one of the 40 teams from across the country chosen for the DC race. Applications require a sketch of your custom bike design and your team concept. All riders must be 18 years or older.
The gates for the Red Bull Spin Off open at 10 a.m. and racing is expected to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free to attend for all ages.
