Get in the Holiday Spirit with These 7 Northern Virginia Classes

Try something new at one of these festive adult education workshops.

Tis the season to learn something new. Find the best ways to set your holiday table and decorate Christmas cookies and doughnuts. Or learn how to make a wreath, ornament, or candle. These Northern Virginia adult education holiday classes and workshops begin in mid-November and run through mid-December.

Holiday Table Setting Workshop

November 13, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Join Stardust Vintage & Gift owner Amy Eggers for a table setting and scaping class. Buffet, potluck, and intimate dinner settings will be reviewed, and the hands-on workshop will have supplemental handouts. The cost is $35, and all participants get 10 percent off select merchandise at Stardust. Attendance is limited to 15 students. 1904 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria

Christmas Shimmer & Sparkle Candle Making Workshop

November 15, 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

At this candle making workshop, guests can customize their own shimmer candle by choosing from 65 colors and 24 wax colors (including plenty of holiday shades). Christmas and holiday scents will also be available, as well as holiday-themed stickers, letters and numbers, and markers to make your own personalized label. Note: Your candle must set and cure for a half hour after the end of the workshop, so plan accordingly. 137 Spotsylvania Mall Dr., Fredericksburg

FCPS ACE Festive Baking Workshops

November 15, December 6, and December 23

This holiday season, the Fairfax County Public Schools Adult and Community Education Program is hosting a festive baking workshop series. On November 15, guests can learn to make authentic German holiday breads with marzipan, raisins, and almonds. The December 6 class teaches how to make German Christmas cookies. On December 23, try your hand at making Bûche de Noël, also known as French Christmas cake. Those interested can register here. 6815 Edsall Rd., Springfield

Star Ornament Making Class

November 22, 10 a.m. to noon

Make your own star ornament at this two-hour class. The $45 fee also includes a signature Kokee tea. 25739 Branch Rail Dr., Ste. 100, South Riding

Holiday Wreath Workshop

December 6, 10 a.m. to noon

Make a wreath perfect for your front door at this crafting class at Long Branch Nature Center. Refreshments, materials, and basic instructions will be provided. Participants should bring their own hand pruners or wire cutters and any personal decorations they want to add to their wreath. Teens ages 12 and up are welcome to attend with a registered adult. 625 S. Carlin Springs Rd., Arlington

Christmas Cookie Decorating Workshop

December 3, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Participants will learn cookie decorating techniques involving icing and sprinkles, perfect for the holiday season. Hello Jackson Home Fragrance Co. is hosting the workshop for those ages 12 and up; anyone under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older. 201 Union St., Unit 104, Occoquan

Christmas Mini Donut Decorating

December 13, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken is hosting a festively delicious decorating event perfect for families. Guests are invited to decorate mini donuts with various toppings and frostings. The class is self-guided, and guests can show up anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. 4005 Campbell Ave., Arlington
