Reston’s eARTh Day Celebration Returns this Saturday

Get ready for a day of creative, environmentally friendly fun.

By Micahi Oppong April 24, 2025 at 9:26 am

Art and the environment will coincide in the second-ever eARTh Day Celebration in Reston Town Center.

This free event puts an artistic spin on Earth Day, and it’s taking place this Saturday, April 26, at Reston Town Square Park between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The event is hosted by the Reston Town Center Association, along with Tephra ICA and Public Art Reston.

The festivities will start with the return of the environmentally themed ChalkFest, showcasing artworks from emerging and established artists. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three artists within four categories: friends and family, amateur, professional, and people’s choice.

The celebration will also feature the Matriculture exhibition on view in the Tephra ICA gallery. Youth climate organizer Nadia Nazar, along with educator and interdisciplinary artist Devin Harclerode, will present their newest works of art.

Other notable activities during the eARTh Day celebration include a poetry reading by the Fairfax County Poet Laureate Angelique Palmer, art workshops and activations, and the celebration of the installation of the temporary public artwork Radiant Pearl, made by Chicago-based artist Claire Ashley.

Enjoy environmentally themed set lists from global jazz-fusion ensemble Project Locrea, as well as the Victor Provost Steel Pan Ensemble.
