Step Back in Time at This NoVA Renaissance Fair

Shipgarten’s free festival offers medieval games, food, and contests for the whole family to enjoy.

By Patrick McFarland January 27, 2025 at 8:30 am

Want to take a trip back to the Middle Ages? You can revel in the sights, sounds, and games of medieval times at the Winter Renaissance Fair, held Saturday, February 1, at Shipgarten in Tysons.

Test your accuracy at the arrow shooting and axe throwing competitions or challenge your friends to a joust. Visit the kid’s corner with face painting, moon bounce, crafts, and more. You can even dress in your finest medieval garb — the best costume receives a $100 gift card. And don’t forget to try a turkey leg!

Shipgarten offers more than 40 local beer and cider options plus an array of food items. The venue is dog- and kid-friendly and includes both indoor and outdoor space. This is a free event, but you can make a reservation ahead of time.

Shipgarten opens at 11 a.m., and the Renaissance Fair will run from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Schedule of Events:

  • Arrow Shooting: 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Jousting: 2 p.m.
  • Axe Throwing: 3 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Stein Hoisting: 4:30 p.m.
  • Costume Contest: 5 p.m.
