George Mason University holds its annual ARTS by George! fundraising event at the Fairfax Campus on September 28, with a headlining performance by Lea Salonga.
Proceeds from the event benefit student scholarships at the College of Visual and Performing Arts, the Mason Community Arts Academy, the Green Machine Ensembles, and the Great Performances at Mason season.
Students show off their work at the event’s showcases. This includes a vintage photobooth and artistic demonstrations from the School of Art, performances by the School of Dance, and screenings of student films. There will be showcases from the Green Machine Ensembles and the Mason Community Arts Academy.
“‘Something for everyone’ might be an overworked phrase, but it fits ARTS by George! perfectly,” said Rick Davis, dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. “From art and music to dance and theater, virtual reality to documentary film, the student showcases offer an unparalleled opportunity to experience the breadth and depth of what we do every day in Mason Arts. I learn something new every year and become an even prouder Dean.”
The main event is a performance by Lea Salonga, a musician with Tony and Olivier awards. Audiences may recognize Salonga from her roles as the singing voice for Princess Jasmine in the animated film Aladdin and as Fa Mulan in Mulan and Mulan II.
The event runs from 5 to 11 p.m. Tickets are available online for $250 for alumni and $350 for non-alumni; $200 per ticket benefits the cause.
