Washington Mystics Move Second Game to Capital One Arena

Rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso will be playing their first game in Washington, DC.

By Michele Kettner May 16, 2024 at 1:22 pm

The demand to see the Washington Mystics this summer continues to rise. Earlier this week, the team announced it will move its June 6 matchup against the Chicago Sky to Capital One Arena.

The 7 p.m. tip-off time will stay the same. Fans who aren’t able to snag tickets can watch the game on Monumental Sports Network, or, if they’re outside of the DC area, on Amazon Prime.

Tickets for the matchup will go on sale Friday, May 17, at noon. Season ticketholders will be relocated to seats similar to the ones they have at the Mystics’ home venue, Entertainment & Sports Arena. Fans who have already purchased single-game tickets to the June 6 game will be able to select their new seat.

The hype for this game surrounds the Sky’s newest players, Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. Reese, a Baltimore native, played two years at the University of Maryland and won a NCAA National Championship with the LSU Tigers in 2023. Cardoso was the second overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft and is a two-time NCAA champion with the South Carolina Gamecocks.

This will be the third Mystics game this season to be played at Capital One. In April, the team announced it would play the game against rookie Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever at the stadium located in Penn Quarter.

“We’ll have, for the first time ever, back-to-back WNBA games, both high levels of interest, in downtown D.C. at Capital One [Arena],” said Ted Leonsis, CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, in a press release. “That’s a really big deal for the league and for us, to have back-to-back games in a 20,000-seat arena. I think it’s going to be really cool.”

The team will also host its Camp Day on July 16 against the Phoenix Mercury at Capital One Arena. That game was already scheduled to be played at the larger venue. Last year, the annual event had over 14,000 fans in attendance.
