Mystics to Move Matchup Against Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever to Capital One Arena

The move allows the team to fit around 16,000 more fans into the game.

By Michele Kettner April 18, 2024 at 1:50 pm

Caitlin Clark is officially a part of the Indiana Fever — and the hype surrounding the incoming rookie has reached the District. After unprecedented demand, the Washington Mystics announced the team will be moving its June matchup against the Fever to Capital One Arena.

The game on June 7 will move from the Mystics home court, Entertainment Sports Arena, which only holds 4,200 fans, to Capital One Arena, which can hold 20,356 fans for basketball events. All other game day logistics remain the same. The game is set to tipoff at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ION television as part of WNBA’s Fright Night on ION series.

Additional tickets for the game will go on sale Tuesday, April 23, at 10 a.m. Season ticketholders will be relocated to a similar location at Capital One Arena. Those who have already bought tickets to the game will have the opportunity to select their new seats.

The move will also allow the team to open up premium hospitality options, including suites and the all-inclusive courtside Hennessy Lofts.

The new Fever guard took the country by storm with her dominating play during her collegiate career with the Iowa Hawkeyes. During her four years at Iowa, Clark became known for her scoring prowess and ability to score a three-point shot way beyond the arch. Just last month, Clark overtook LSU’s Pete Maravich as the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer.

Washington is not the first team to announce this kind of move for upcoming battles against the Fever. Before Clark was drafted, the Las Vegas Aces announced they would move their game from Michelob Ultra Arena, which holds about 12,000, to T-Mobile Arena, home to the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

In April alone, women’s basketball has been crushing previous viewership records. The 2024 Women’s NCAA Championship game, which featured Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes, averaged 18.7 million viewers, while 2.45 million people watched the WNBA Draft.
