This Independent Bookstore Day, challenge yourself to visit as many area bookstores as possible. Beginning on Saturday, 15 area bookstores take part in the first NoVA Bookstore Crawl. For this inaugural event, shoppers will receive a “passport” card that will be stamped at each participating store they visit.
The event begins on April 27, and participants have until May 31 to collect as many stamps as possible.
You’ll win prizes based on how many stamps you accumulate. Visit four bookstores and you will get a free advanced reader’s copy of a book of your choice. Visit eight and you’ll earn a tote bag. And when you visit 10 stores, you’ll have a chance to win a grand prize.
Most of the stores are in NoVA, except one in Frederick, Maryland, and one in Wardensville, West Virginia. Participating stores include the following:

- Bards Alley in Vienna
- Birch Tree Bookstore in Leesburg
- Curious Iguana in Frederick, Maryland
- Fonts Books & Gifts in McLean
- Hooray for Books! in Alexandria
- Hundred Acre Books in Culpeper
- Old Town Books in Alexandria
- One More Page in Arlington
- Scrawl Books in Reston
- Spelled Ink in Orange
- The Open Book in Warrenton
- Winchester Book Gallery in Winchester
- Wordplay in Wardensville, West Virginia
Many stores plan to offer additional celebrations on International Bookstore Day, including giveaways and author talks. Stop by One More Page for free books and a chance to win prizes if you find the golden or silver tickets hidden in the store. At Old Town Books, there’s story time, a maker’s market, and other fun events, plus chances to win prizes. At Bard’s Alley, activities include a stuffy sleepover (where your stuffed animal stays over) and a story time with a craft.
