Weekend Fun: Batman Live in Concert, Polar Plunge, and Restaurant Week 

Restaurant events, thrilling polar plunges, epic concerts, you name it, there’s something for everyone the weekend of January 19–21.

Northern Virginia’s weekend agenda offers the perfect antidote to the region’s cold weather. From the cinematic anniversary of Batman accompanied by a live orchestra to special prix fixe menus at restaurants to stargazing, these upcoming events on January 19–21 promise fun. 

Alexandria Restaurant Week 2024 

January 19–28 

More than 80 restaurants throughout Alexandria’s neighborhoods, including Old Town, Del Ray, Carlyle and Eisenhower, and the West End, will offer multi-course prix fixe dinners for $30, $40, and $50. All five of the Alexandria restaurants on our Top 50 list have specials. Various locations, prices vary by meal

Falls Church Restaurant Week 2024 

January 19–28 

Indulge in the diverse flavors of Falls Church during its first ever restaurant week. Forty eateries will showcase their culinary experiences, including three from our Top 50 list. Various locations in Falls Church, prices vary 

Batman (1989) Live in Concert 

January 19, 8 p.m. 

Experience the 35th anniversary of Batman (1989) at the Warner Theatre in Washington, DC, complete with a live orchestra and an invitation to dress as your favorite DC Superhero. Warner Theatre: 513 13th St. NW, Washington, DC, $65–$115 

Jersey Boys 

January 19, 7:30 p.m.; January 20, 7:30 p.m.; January 21, 3 p.m. 

Don’t take your eyes off a special weekend with the Tony-winning musical, Jersey Boys. Watch the rise of four blue-collar kids to pop fame, with a dinner option available. Riverside Center for the Performing Arts: 95 Riverside Pkwy., Fredericksburg, $55–$82 

La Vang Lunar New Year Festival 2024 

January 20–21, 10 a.m.–10 p.m.  

Embrace the spirit of the Lunar New Year at the La Vang Lunar New Year Festival 2024, hosted at the Dulles Expo Center. See lively lion and dragon dances. Watch martial arts demonstrations. Savor the tastes of Asia. Dulles Expo Center: 4320 Chantilly Shopping Center, Chantilly, free for ages 2 and under, $5 for ages 12 and under or students, $10 for general admission 

NoVA Wine Expo 

January 20, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. 

Enjoy a day filled with Virginia wines and specialty vendors. Learn about products select wineries, cideries, and distilleries. Notaviva Vineyards, 8 Chains North, and The Winery at Bull Run are among the award-winning vineyards that will be there. Dulles Expo Center: 4320 Chantilly Shopping Center, Chantilly, $40 single, $70 pair 

Mosaic Polar Plunge 

January 20, noon–2 p.m.  

Take the chilly challenge at Mosaic’s Polar Plunge! This family-friendly event combines the thrill of a pool plunge with a costume contest, all to support 21,000 Special Olympics Virginia athletes. Mosaic District: 2910 District Ave., Fairfax, registration required, each attendee must raise at least $100 to participate 

Stargazing at the Udvar-Hazy Center 

January 20, 5:30–7:30 p.m.

Uncover the celestial wonders of the night at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center’s Stargazing event. The Northern Virginia Astronomy Club will help you figure out what you are looking at. Dress in layers and bring a small flashlight covered with red cellophane. This is a weather-permitting event. Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center: 14390 Air and Space Museum Pkwy., Chantilly, free 

The Smithereens with Robin Wilson of Gin Blossoms 

January 20, 8:30 p.m. 

Rock music enthusiasts, mark your calendars for an electrifying night with The Smithereens at the State Theatre. Expect to hear some of the band’s classics, like “A Girl Like You” and “Only a Memory.” Playing with the band will be Robin Wilson the Gin Blossoms. The State Theatre: 220 N. Washington St., Falls Church, $26 

Fortune Feimster: Live Laugh Love! 

January 20, 9:30 p.m. 

Experience a night of non-stop comedy with Fortune Feimster’s Live Laugh Love! tour. Her Netflix comedy special, Good Fortune, earned her a Critics Choice Awards nomination. Capital One Hall: 7750 Capital One Tower Rd., Tysons, starting at $29.50
