Where to Enjoy Festive Holiday Events for $35 or Less Around NoVA

Even if you’re trying to conserve some cash this holiday season, you can still check out these cheery events without breaking the bank.

If you want to save your cash for presents but still get out in the holiday air, here’s a rundown of budget-friendly or free events you can participate in this year.

Greater Manassas Christmas Parade

December 3, 10 a.m.-noon

The 76th Greater Manassas Christmas Parade is coming to town. The city’s will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2023, so this year’s parade theme is Hometown Christmas: Past, Present, and Future. Last year’s parade was one of the biggest yet, so don’t miss it this year. 9201 Center St., Manassas; free

Fairfax City Holiday Market

December 2-11: Fridays, 5-8 p.m.; Saturdays, noon-6 p.m.; Sundays: noon-5 p.m.

With free admission, you can find plenty of affordable gifts for those family members with the longest lists. On Sunday, December 4, bring your camera to take a free photo with Santa from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Old Town Square: 10415 North St., Fairfax; free

Reston Town Center Ice Skating Pavilion

Through March 12, 2023

Nothing gets you ready for the holidays like a skate around the rink. The outdoor ice skating rink at Reston Town Center offers daily public skating, with extended hours for the holidays. Reston Town Center: 1818 Discovery St., Reston; Adults $10, children (under 12) $9, skate rentals $7

The Day You Begin

Various times through December 18

Take the family into DC to enjoy the arts at the world premiere of The Day You Begin. This commissioned musical is based on one of Kennedy Center Education Artist-in-Residence Jacqueline Woodson’s most popular picture books and is illustrated by Rafael López. The showing on Saturday, December 10 at 11 a.m. is a sensory-friendly performance. The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts: 2700 F St. NW, Washington, DC; $20

Hillsboro’s Holiday Homes Walking Tour

December 11, noon to 6 p.m.

Hillsboro hosts guided walking tours of five historic downtown homes decked out with crafted fresh greenery, Christmas decorations, and other locally sourced materials. After the house tour, visit the Christmas Market at the Old Stone School. 37016 Charles Town Pike, Hillsboro; $15

Holiday Bubbles & Brunch

December 11, 1-5 p.m.

Tour 10 of Loudoun’s B&Bs and vacation rentals while enjoying local cuisine, craft beverages, live music, and fine art. Proceeds from the event go to the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter (LAWS) and Tree of Life Ministries. Various addresses available on the map; $35
