Berry Good Time

It’s May, which means it’s the start of strawberry season. I’m a little excited for the start of summer, and this is the perfect way to get in the seasonal mindset. As long as the rain stays away, you’ll see me roaming the fields of Yankey Farms. –Michele Kettner, associate digital & research editor

The Running of the Chihuahuas on May 7 at the Wharf sounds, if nothing else, like a sight to behold: 90 mini-pups racing on a 60-foot track. It might not be for everybody in itself, but there will be a beer garden, a DJ, and the proceeds from the race will benefit volunteers saving dogs from high-kill shelters in the region. –James Finley, senior editor
