Getting ‘Round
“Since I tried the puffy wares at Dragon Mochi Donuts, I can’t stop thinking about them. I don’t usually eat sweets outside of work, but this is one time I’m going to let my id loose on a baker’s dozen in flavors like honey-black sesame and ube. ” –Alice Levitt, food editor/critic

DIY Decor
“I’m happy to announce that my first sunflower has finally bloomed! After months of waiting, last week’s heat wave did the trick. Unfortunately, we have to close up the garden early this season. So, in order to hang on to my buds a little longer, it’s time to move them inside. I’m very thankful that Metro Flower Market shared their tips for creating your own beautiful bouquets, or else I would have some pretty sad sunflowers.” –Michele Kettner, associate digital & research editor

Validating Vermouth
“Nick Farrell, spirits director for NRG and the man behind the drinks menu for quite a few NoVA cocktail joints, recently told us that his must-have mixer for home bars is vermouth. So if you’re looking for a way to get into the famously tricky ingredient, you could try heading to NRG’s B-Side, where they combine Dolin Rouge vermouth with the artichoke-based amaro Cynar for their Jokes, Smokes & Artichokes. It’ll give you a new perspective on fortified wine, in any case.” –James Finley, senior editor

Dog-and-Pony Show
“I’m just starting horse riding lessons and would love to check out the equine-centric town of Middleburg, including The Tack Box, which apparently has great gear for both humans and dogs (even though I don’t actually have a dog at this point).” –Kelly Kendall, editor
