Tysons Corner Center Kicks Off Summerfest Season 2021

Fill your summer schedule full of concerts, movies, bingo, and more at the beloved shopping center.

By Renee Sklarew May 27, 2021 at 9:48 am

Just in time for those long summer evenings, Tysons Corner Center kicks off Summerfest 2021, a series of events focused on bringing people together safely with an emphasis on fun. Summerfest features wellness programs, concerts, arts entertainment, movie nights, and the wildly popular Bingo Night. Look for retailer pop-ups and happy-hour deals from Tysons eateries, too. Social distancing and other safety protocols are in place for an enhanced experience. Sure, it’s hot outside, but The Plaza has canopies where you can rest in the shade or cool off inside the mall.

“The world is opening up, and we are excited,” says Todd Putt, the senior manager of marketing for Tysons Corner Center. “Now that things are headed in the right direction, we are anxious to get people out and having fun.”

Some of the most popular events are Art on the Plaza, held on the last Thursday of the month through October. Instructors from AR Workshop will help guests create seasonal art projects themed around holidays. Another family-friendly event, held every Sunday through Thursday, is The Plaza Live, with caricature creators, face painters, and balloon artists, along with entertainment by local musicians.

Summerfest 2021 continues the beloved tradition of Movie Night on The Plaza, held on the first Saturday at sundown. Guests can sit at tables or bring their own chair or blanket to spread on the grass. AMC Theatre will run a family-friendly film and sell food from an outdoor concession. For those who want to go indoors, AMC will show the same movie inside for free (on a first-come-first-serve basis).

Putt says Bingo Night is a fan favorite, and they’ve already had 85 out of the 100 people allowed register for the first game. Playing bingo is free, and guests sit at the socially distant tables. The competition is fierce, thanks to the cool swag and prizes supplied by Tysons Corner’s array of retailers. Among the top prizes so far—Yeti water bottles, camping chairs, gift cards to retailers, and even room nights at the Hyatt Regency.

Looking to sweat it out? Check out Fit Club on the Plaza. On the second Thursday through October, The Plaza and partner UnderArmour host top fitness instructors teaching a variety of workout styles—there’s Senior Fit Night, Zumba, Pilates Remix , Run Club, and Glow Yoga. The number of participants is limited, so sign up in advance.

The Plaza is a 1.5-acre outdoor gathering space located on the second level of the Tysons Corner Mall. You can access The Plaza by parking near the AMC Movie entrance and crossing the pedestrian bridge, or if you come by the Silver Line to Tysons Metro Station, take the walkway to the VITA Building near the Hyatt Regency.
