Science Enrichment

In Dialogue: Smithsonian Objects and Social Justice

With the inauguration right around the corner, discover the history of the voting machine at this National Portrait Gallery discussion. Participants will learn the about the relationship between a 1898 voting machine and the portrait of civil rights activist Robert P. Moses and how it connects to the present. Storytime!

Let your little one get in some much needed library time with this virtual storytime. With a new story every Monday and Wednesday, your children will enjoy new stories, rhymes and songs to help them gain reading readiness. // free
Occupied America: A Conversation with Donald Johnson
Jan. 19, 7-8 p.m.
Learn about the American Revolution through the eyes of the ordinary. Join author Donald F. Johnson as he discusses his new book Occupied America: British Military Rule and the Experience of Revolution. In the book, Johnson lays out the everyday experiences of those living under military occupation during the 1770s and 1780s. // free
Virtual Afternoon Tea: Rebellious Royals Sunday
Jan. 24, 2 p.m.
Combine tea time with a history lesson. As you sip your tea and snack on finger foods, participants will learn about the royals who have broken the rules and rebelled against tradition throughout the monarchy’s history. // $12-$24
Stories in the Architecture
Jan. 30, 2-3:15 p.m.
Get a behind-the-scenes tour of the 18th-century Lee-Fendall House. Explore the architecture of the home and the changes throughout the centuries, from the basement to the attic.
