The holiday season is over and the long, dark winter looms ahead. But a series of outdoor displays at National Landing is sure to ward off the doldrums.
Designed as a way to activate public spaces and bring some cheer this time of year, the National Landing Business Improvement District (BID) recently unveiled Turn Up the Love, a campaign with outdoor pop-ups. On display until Jan. 15 are a 10-foot-tall larger-than-life boombox made from thousands of ornaments that plays holiday music at The Water Park on 1750 Crystal Drive, and three standing photo frames perfect for selfie and photo opps that are accessible at Centre Park in Potomac Yards, 3550 S. Clark Street. More pop-ups will be announced soon.
Turn Up the Love is a spinoff of the BID’s #LoveNationalLanding series that launched earlier this year, during which uplifting artwork was displayed on storefronts.
“One of our top priorities is to create unique experiences that connect the greater community and shape the area’s identity, from world-class art and lighting installations to enlivening the streetscape and creating high-impact, high-visibility activations, said Tracy Sayegh Gabriel, President and Executive Director of the National Landing BID, in a statement. “‘Turn Up the Love’ is a prime example, enhancing our public spaces with whimsical pop-up moments that continue to position National Landing as an attractive destination for residents and visitors alike.”
National Landing, a dynamic, mixed-use urban center that encompasses the Crystal City, Pentagon City and Potomac Yard-Arlington neighborhoods, is Virginia’s largest walkable downtown area. It includes more than 26,000 residents, nearly 12 million square feet of office space, around 5,900 hotel rooms and more than 450 restaurants and shops.
